NFL week five 3-3-3 predictionsThe no bullshit skinny weekly predictions - Presented by Football Forecasters NFL Week Five: 3-3-3 - Here are 3 dogs who could win, 3 favorites who should roll, and 3 down in the dirt dogfights we predict this week:
- Who let the Dogs out: Our top rated NFL upset pick this week is Arizona. Despite being on the cover of SI and picked to go to the Superbowl, outside of a great effort against a depleted New England squad, Carolina has not been playing good ball. They're vulnerable over the top, and Arizona has the receivers to take advantage. Dallas, win or lose, has been in every game they've played. This one will likely be decided by a field goal in the final minutes. We expect the Cowboys to go after the hurting McNabb with harmful intentions. Now this is one to keep a close eye on: Green Bay center Flanagan is out. They're already playing with two barely adequate guards - if LT Chad Clifton, who hasn't been practicing, is also out then New Orleans becomes an A caliber Money Line pick.
Favorites that should roll: The Niners are throwing rookie QB Alex Smith into the fire, you can reasonably expect a couple turnovers. Everything points to an Indy domination. However, we much prefer the early line number than the latest. NY Jets will have a difficult time scoring on a stellar Tampa defense. The only thing that should keep this one from getting ugly is if Bucs QB Griese goes into one of his can't-hit-my-wide-open-receiver-funks. New England run defense is hurting, and that's what Atlanta does best. It doesn't matter if its Vick or Schaub - Atlanta's gonna pound the ball on the ground.
Games to stay away from: Rams vs Seahawks - Seattle without it's two starting receivers, ouch. But after losing 3 times to the Rams last year expect a great physical effort from Seattle. This one should be a dogfight. Detroit vs Ravens - Given both squads like to run the Under looks semi-attractive here. Ravens have some things they should be able to do over the top, if they have the will to abandon the running game for 1 week. Denver vs Washington - Skins have this way of staying in the mix in ugly games. We like the Under here more than the side.
